Former bikie gang leader Vince Focarelli has been banned by the Parole Board from attending the grounds of Adelaide University.
Board presiding member Frances Nelson said solicitors for the university had raised concern for the safety of staff and students after Mr Focarelli started attending the city campus regularly, despite not being enrolled.Ms Nelson said it was not unusual to impose geographical restrictions on parolees."He wasn't at the time enrolled as a student so I don't why he was going there, but it seemed a reasonable thing to do [to impose a restriction], after all Mr Focarelli is not a free man and we are charged under the legislation to put community safety as the paramount," she said.Mr Focarelli's lawyer Steven Georgiadis said his client was on the grounds because he wanted to apply to become a student and he had attended a prayer room."I don't think this concern is justified at all, I think it's a kneejerk reaction," he said.
